The History of AKSCONS
From the former schools of Nursing/midwifery to present day College of Nursing Sciences.
The Oron campus has its roots in a midwifery training school that dates back to the 1930s. It is now a key campus of AKSCONS, offering ND/HND programs in nursing and midwifery.

The Anua campus, formerly part of St. Luke’s Hospital, has a long history of nursing education dating back to 1946. It became one of the foundational campuses of AKSCONS and admitted its first ND Nursing students in October 2024.

The Ituk Mbang campus began as a hospital-based training school in 1967. It has a strong tradition of midwifery and nursing education and is now a vital part of AKSCONS's multi-campus structure.

Established in 1978, the Eket campus initially operated under Immanuel General Hospital. It has since been fully integrated into AKSCONS, contributing to the expansion of nursing education in the state.

The Ikot Ekpene campus, formerly the Central School of Nursing, is the main campus and administrative headquarters of AKSCONS. It was established by law in 2021 as the main Campus of the College

- Achieved NBTE/NMCN accreditation in October 2024

The Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences (AKSCONS) was officially established on 13th September, 2021 by a state law signed by former Governor - Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. This law unified all existing state-run nursing and midwifery schools into a single collegiate system with five campuses, Ikot Ekpene being the main Campus.

- Law signed on 13th September, 2021 establishing AKSCONS.
- Unified five previously independent nursing/midwifery schools under one administration.
- Established a five-campus structure: Ikot Ekpene (Main), Anua, Eket, Ituk Mbang, and Oron.

In October 2024, the College received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as well as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), officially designating it a Monotechnic Institution. The first set of National Diploma (ND) students were admitted through JAMB across all campuses.
