Over time, it has been established that research and scholarly works are the life-wire and enabler of excellence in an elite educational institution. Exclusively for intents and purposes of scholarly research, the Provost of Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences, Mrs. Ekaette Akan, recently played host to a contingent of research scholars from far-away Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Washington State in the United States of America (USA).

In what was clearly a bold and eloquent expression of an engaging intellectual brainstorming, Mrs. Akan, an elite nursing professional and an administrator, had motivated the duo of Carrie Ann Matyac — a research Professor — and Miss Oredolapo Kartcher, a research nursing student all from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma in Washington alongside their research facilitators, as they stormed Ikot Ekpene main campus of the College on an academic research mission.

Presenting her thesis topic: "Understanding the Impact of Traditional Medicine and Modern Medicine Among Nigerians," the Pacific Lutheran University research student, Oredolapo, interfaced with the AKSCONS academic team represented by the Provost, a select nursing professionals-cum-lecturers as well as students, in a brain-racking intellectual exercise. As part of the engagement, the visiting team also shared their research participation link: https://plu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eA8Pm9Fs0p6S5VA, designed to further broaden data collection for the ongoing study.

A deep reflection on the impacts of traditional and western medicine both on patients and across the general Nigerian population had generated 7-point research-prompting issues which were exhaustively addressed.

Responding at the end of the interaction on behalf of the visiting contingent, Miss Kartcher commended the Provost and the college management for granting them such level of on-the-spot audience and also lauded the entire AKSCONS team for what she described as a high degree of intellectual engagement and resourcefulness. She disclosed that the impressive outcome of the research richly facilitated by the College would be published in the Nursing Journal of the Pacific Lutheran University.
